One of the most important aspects of your divorce (besides custody of your children, of course) is to have correct valuations of marital assets.  Your attorney has the very important job of investigating, valuating, and objectively inventorying all marital assets.  Some assets have a readily ascertainable value, such as a bank account, publicly traded stock, etc.  The value of assets such as homes, cars, jewelry, etc., is usually determined by obtaining appraisals from qualified experts.  The value of pension plans and retirement accounts may also be determined from an evaluation.  If you have a business that needs valuation, the process gets a little more complicated, as services from experts and/or accountants may need to be employed.  Unless the parties agree to the value determined, the court will have to take evidence and testimony to make a determination based on the evidence as to the value of the property.
